Vancouver Interior Design Trends for 2013

Every year, whether it be fashion, interior design, graphics or cosmetics, trends emerge that identify what will be popular, what will have lasting power and what will inspire the way we choose to express our creativity.  As we say goodbye to 2012 and welcome another year, we look forward to what the world has in store for us, as interior designers in Vancouver, and relish the possibilities ahead.

Trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort ( http://www.trendtablet.com/ ) has launched her predictions for 2013 and 2014.  Here we share a few of our favorite things to watch out for or incorporate into your existing décor!

In interior design trends often recycle themselves!  Look for pattern to re-invent itself in 2013.  Although we have seen pattern return over the past few years in subtle ways (side chairs, toss cushions, a rug here and there), we are expecting to see pattern jump back into our daily lives but with a twist: a white background!  A simple palette is always trendy do not be afraid to put your prints on a blank canvas and excite your senses.

Also predicted for 2013 is the idea of clashing your fabrics and patterns.  No longer will we be concerned about whether our pieces go together.  Instead, interior designers will be looking to create functional chaos and stimulate the senses!  This also includes the addition of texture.  Be willing to create depth with various fabrics and finishes; not only will it add warmth but your space will instantly be inviting.

Keeping on trend, the use of order and repetition will also be popular in 2013.  Think squares, stripes or bold repetitive patterns.  Try bold colours, smaller artwork or intriguing wallpaper.  This year, as in the interior design world, step outside your comfort zone, challenge the senses and become the fabulous new trendsetter on your block!
